I bet you can guess what this section wants you to do can\u2019t you?
Yep, add an image. Importantly \u2013 this should be an image of yourself, because that\u2019s who the mentees will be expecting to see on the sessions!
And, please keep it professional, (ish \u2013 no need to wear a suit and tie) certainly no nudity. There are plenty of other sites you can go to and post unclad pictures of yourself. We\u2019re not any of those sites \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hot Tip<\/strong>: If you\u2019ve linked your LinkedIn profile to your Career Navig8r profile. Use that picture. It\u2019ll give you even more credibility, and make sure mentees know they\u2019re stalking the right LinkedIn profile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next up \u2013 the nuts and bolts, meat and bones of your profile. The part where you\u2019ll need to exercise your writing chops (or just copy & paste the first part of your CV)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Time to write as though getting chosen by a mentee depended on it. Mainly, because it does \u2013 sort of.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

This is where you come across as knowledgeable and approachable. Where you paint the picture that you\u2019re the exact <\/strong>person the mentee is looking for. Remember \u2013 the biggest difference between Career Navig8r and other mentoring platforms \u2013 be specific about the way you\u2019re going to help. Most of our mentees are looking for guidance & mentoring in a specific area.
A big fancy job title will mean less to them than \u201cI\u2019ve got x number of years in C++ programming, and I can teach you everything you need to know about being successful in that role.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, add in a bit of your human side \u2013 make yourself relatable. If it\u2019s a choice between 2 mentors, and one appears more relatable. That\u2019s the one they are likely to choose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hot tip<\/strong>: Remember to leave white space between the paragraphs (or even sentences) simply because a big, long wall of text makes most people feel sad. More importantly. Those same people are less likely to read what you\u2019ve written.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Take a cue from the way this blog is laid out when it comes to leaving white space).<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next up: Your job listing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once you\u2019ve clicked the entirely too big to miss \u2018save changes\u2019 button above. You\u2019ll see this \ud83d\udc49 \ud83d\udc49<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can probably guess the next part \u2013 but go ahead and click on the \u2018Add listing\u2019 button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you do that \u2013 you\u2019ll then see this \ud83d\udc47 \ud83d\udc47<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hopefully it\u2019s all self-explanatory\u2026
But just in case:<\/p>\n\n\n

Name of Job role \u2013 is what job you were doing i.e. Actuary or Acupuncturist or Accountant
Sectors \u2013 which sector you performed that job role in i.e. Environment or Agriculture or Media.
Organisation \u2013 the name of the company you performed the job role for i.e. Mitsubishi, Microsoft, Ma\u2019s Pie Shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can then check the box for whether it was a Public (usually government-owned) or Private (owned by people who aren\u2019t the government)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EG:
HMRC= Public Sector
HMV = Private sector<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can then add in the dates you performed this role between. Or just tick the date you started and the \u2018Current Position\u2019 checkbox if it\u2019s a job role you\u2019re still doing at the same company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can add another job role if it is relevant <\/strong>to the job role you are offering mentoring in.
i.e. If you\u2019re offering mentoring in software development, it\u2019s probably not relevant that you worked at Ma\u2019s Pie Shop serving pies to patrons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Otherwise click on the second (or bottom) button that says \u2018Next: Job Role\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FYI. The ‘Add listing’ section is split into six subsections – which are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Work experience<\/li>
  • Job Role<\/li>
  • Seniority levels<\/li>
  • Languages<\/li>
  • Availability<\/li>
  • Pricing<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    When you click that button \u2013 the one that says \u2018Next: Job Role\u2019 this is what you\u2019ll see \ud83d\udc49 \ud83d\udc49<\/p>\n\n\n

    NB \u2013 If you want to mentor more than one type of job role \u2013 say software development AND project management. You\u2019ll need to create a new listing for that.
    Remember – Career Navig8r is ALL about the relevancy of your experience \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The first drop down \u2018Select a job role to mentor\u2019 will initially prefill a job role based on your previously listed job role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Next, you\u2019ll be asked to give this listing a name. This should be something that means something to you (especially if you intend to mentor more than one role) and should tell your potential mentees what to expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    i.e. Beginner C++ programming, Interview tips for Perl programmers. You need to remember.
    Your mentee needs to know what you\u2019re offering mentoring in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Next is the meaty part where you get to tell people exactly why you\u2019re the best person to mentor them \u2013 based on the experience and accomplishments you\u2019ll tell them about here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What did you do well, what made you stand out, what knowledge can you pass on to them. How did you do it. And – what the results of the project were.
    Basically, inspire them to want to choose you as their mentor.
    Also, remember the previous tip about leaving some white space between your sentences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Like this \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Next \u2013 a little section about what specific skills you learned or gained in the role. This is free type. So, you can write what you want \u2013 but remember, they\u2019ll ideally be the skills someone who is choosing you as their mentor will need to be interested in. Relevant to the job you\u2019re discussing \u2013 and the role you\u2019re offering mentoring in.
    Relevancy, remember \ud83d\udc4d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Next up \u2013 A key project related to the role. A chance to name drop if you want \u2013 or you can tailor it to perfectly match what you think a mentee wants to hear. If you rolled out desktops for all of Barclays Bank \u2013 say that \u2013 and what you learned from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Next up: Seniority Levels. When you click the big orange \u2018Seniority levels\u2019 button. You\u2019ll see this<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    As you can see \u2013 it\u2019s a straightforward tick box exercise. You must choose at least one seniority level; you can<\/strong> choose as many as are applicable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Nice & easy, you now need to click the big orange button. This time it says \u2018Languages\u2019 (This is the 4th of the 6 topics)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    When you click that big old button, you\u2019ll now see this \ud83d\udc49 \ud83d\udc49<\/p>\n\n\n

    Another simple tick box exercise. Tick as few or as many boxes that correspond to the languages you are happy (and confident) to hold your mentoring sessions in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    NB \u2013 If you can\u2019t see a language(s), you can manually add it\/them in the box, and we\u2019ll get it added as soon as we can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Another big orange button. This time it says \u2018Availability\u2019 \u2013 as you might have guessed, topic 5 of 6 is your mentoring availability \ud83d\ude0a Click the button and let\u2019s move on<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Topic 5 of 6 \u2013 almost there.<\/p>\n\n\n

    Availability<\/strong>: These are the times, and the days, when you can offer mentoring appointments!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Hot tip<\/strong>: You\u2019ll see why this is before the picture. When you change a start time value \u2013 you must <\/strong>change the corresponding finishing value. Otherwise, the option to save won\u2019t appear.
    By way of an example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    When you first open this screen \u2013 you\u2019ll see the days of the week. Click on one to choose a day to offer sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In the example above you can see sessions being offered on a Monday between 3 PM and 5 PM (15:00 & 17:00)
    17:00 is the default finish time \u2013 but unless you change that by altering it and choosing 17:00 again. You won\u2019t be able to move on.
    You\u2019ve come so far through 5 topics \u2013 you don\u2019t want to get stuck so close to the end \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n\n\n

    Lastly \u2013 another big orange button \u2013 and probably the one you\u2019ve been waiting for. Once you\u2019ve added all the days & times you can offer mentoring sessions – and you\u2019ve altered the finishing times where you need to<\/strong>\u2026so that you can save.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


    Click the big orange \u2018Pricing\u2019 button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If you want to charge for different mentoring services at different rates \u2013 you\u2019ll only have to create a new job listing \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Once you click the \u2018Submit\u2019 button, you\u2019re done<\/strong> in terms of creating your Career Navig8r Profile and job listing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    HOWEVER. Do you want to get paid? If you do there are a couple more things to do \u2013 but this is to enable Stripe \u2013 our payment partner. To give you the money you\u2019re owed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Once you\u2019ve finished your profile and job listing and clicked Submit.

    In this image \u2013 the \u2018I\u2019m an individual\u2019 checkbox & Country dropdown have been filled in which brings up the boxes for your Sort Code and your International Bank Account Number (IBAN).
    They need to be entered with no formatting<\/em><\/strong>.
    Just as a series of numbers (sort code) & letters and numbers (IBAN)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    E.G. Sort Code<\/strong> 001122 IBAN <\/strong>GB54HBUK00112212345678<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You\u2019ll know whether you\u2019ve entered the numbers in the correct format, because Stripe won\u2019t scream at you in big red letters saying \u201cWe couldn\u2019t validate your details\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now, you need to click on their \u2018Get Verified\u2019 button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You\u2019re most of the way there now with your Stripe verification – you\u2019ll be pleased to hear.
    (Although, the getting paid part is probably worth the odd hoop to jump through, right?)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Anyway \u2013 go ahead and click the \u2018Get Verified\u2019 button \ud83d\ude0a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    When mentees enter a search query for a job they want mentoring in. This is what they will see.
