For many people, work problems are a serious cause of stress, especially when those problems start spilling out into personal hours. Whether it\u2019s an ongoing point of conflict between you and a colleague or a problem you\u2019ve not yet managed to solve, finding the best advice for overcoming workplace challenges can be hard, especially if you\u2019re reluctant to share those problems with your friends and family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Identifying Key Challenges<\/h2>\n\n\n

More often than not, the challenges we struggle to overcome on our own are the result of a blindspot. We all have blindspots from time to time and the unfortunate fact is that, by definition, we\u2019re the people least suited to identifying them in ourselves. A Mentor, on the other hand, is perfect for identifying blindspots and helping you to overcome them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You see, it\u2019s impossible to overcome workplace challenges unless you really understand the problem in question and who better to understand your problem than someone who\u2019s stood in your shoes<\/a>. Your Mentor will be just that person and that means they\u2019ll be able to help you get to the heart of the matter faster than you would on your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your Mentor will have the benefits of both first hand experience and a more objective view-point. They\u2019ll be able to relate to you but they\u2019ll also be able to come at it from an exterior perspective. This is important because with many workplace problems the biggest challenge is identifying the source of the issue. Once you\u2019ve done that, you\u2019ve taken the most important step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Establishing Clear Objectives<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once your Mentor has helped you lay out the source of your workplace problem, it\u2019s time to start building the solution and that means defining your goals. No matter how simple or complicated the problem, the best way to work through it is always to have a set of clear objectives<\/a>. Working with your Mentor, you\u2019ll be able to put together a step by step guide for how you, personally, are going to tackle that problem and what you\u2019ll do should it happen again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leveraging Mentorship for Solutions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As you work in a job role, you\u2019ll build up a list of solutions and approaches to handling problems. This is great, up to a point, but it can become an issue once you\u2019ve grown comfortable and a new and unfamiliar problem comes your way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having a second opinion here can be career-altering. A Mentor isn\u2019t just someone to teach you, after all, but they\u2019re also someone you can bounce ideas off of and someone who can help you to think outside the box. They say that two heads are better than one and, when it comes to mentoring, that couldn\u2019t be more true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether it’s a fast-paced brainstorming session or simply a chance to calmly talk things through, their perspective could be the key to finding the perfect solution to your problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continuous Learning and Growth<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Some problems happen only occasionally. Others are frequent. Some are major, like being made redundant, while others are more minor, like managing organisational problems within the office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In just about any job role, in any industry, the longer you\u2019re there, the more you\u2019ll hear the same cliched solutions for overcoming workplace challenges. The cliches might not be bad – they might even have been quite useful – but after a while they cease to mean as much as they once did.
